This is so true, I do believe. We watched downtown businesses tumble like dominos after the mall was built. The corporate stores left cities in a hurry. The locally-owned stores made haste to relocate to the mall only to discover that the rental and operating fees were unmanageable and they ceased to exist in short order. I remember the hassle the local customers encountered when they tried to buy with a check. Some businesses refused to accept payment by check. Others required much personal information that some of us considered too much. Almost all of those businesses have left the area. Since the mall has been in existence, customers have been threatened, mugged, robbed, shot, and killed. Numerous automobiles have been vandalized. It became the indoor playground for roving gangs of juvenile scofflaws who soured the family shopping experience. Some of the current businesses serve the needs of the greater good, but there are not enough of them to justify further existence of the mall. Considering the increasing eyesore it has become, it seems to have outlived its purpose. Would it be missed if it were to be removed? Probably not. Memories fade fast. The current businesses have numerous location options in the area. Time to move on. Time has come today.

The mall ruined all the businesses in the Mercer County area in the late 1970s. At that time, the downtown areas were bursting with business. The mall came along and pulled customers away from downtown areas and left behind the vacant buildings that now we see. The internet arrived just in time to make brick and mortar business obsolete. Going back to any business model we had once would be similar to trying to put the toothpaste back into the tube. It is a nice idea but it requires more than words. Words, we have enough of. Where will the world go next? Who knows. God, help us all.

It used to be pretty nice back in the sixties and seventies, but it went downhill when the mall opened and shut down the stores in the downtown area. Corrupt politicians and cops that don't abide by the law are the biggest problems for small towns.

Wilma Meadows Age 65 DOB 2-8-1957 4'10" approximately 220lbs. Gray/silver hair. She hasn't dyed it or permed it lately like in the picture. She is not supposed to be driving but was last known to have left her home in Lashmeet, WV driving a white Chevy Impella 2010-2012 with valid handicap tags registered in Wima's name. She has a history of strokes, dementia and severe diabetes and does not have her insulin or other medications. She is likely wearing black slide on shoes possibly with a single strap across the top of the foot. She left home about 2:15pm, today, Tuesday, June 28, 2022. heading to get fuel at 5 Star gas in Lake Bottom and then to a family members address in Ghent. She planned on going Gardner Rd to I77 North to Ghent. She was to get off at exit 28 and should have been there by 3:15pm but didn't show by 5:15 so they went looking and the Sheriff's office was notified and a missing person report filed. Friday Dec 3 at around 430pm a dog was murdered on thorn st right in front of Paul's license plate service. The vehicle massacred the poor animal and never even hit the brake. And did not stop. I am willing to pay for information leading to the maniac. The vehicle was a newer I believe Dodge truck with a thin silver panel on side. And lure all those stores downtown. We need you, baby. We need more good business in our cities and towns. Kill off the mall and turn that into office space for IT or something. We should be looking towards a future without coal in it, so why not go high tech? We need to attract some youth to our state because they’re all leaving and so with them goes our state’s future. 77 sure did dick us over pretty good, so we either bring them here or grow in their direction. I’ve read rumblings of an inquiry into land purchase near the highway and nothing beyond that, but it’s a start. I sure hope we do something soon. This city is a wreck and needs some kind of miracle fast.

I just watched Inside Addition. They were doing a story on Tony Timpa, a man from Dallas Texas who died while laying on the ground in handcuffs. This happened in August 2016. Where were the protests about this? His death was ruled a homicide also. ALL LIVES MATTER! On a personal note, I fully support the right to peaceful assembly in support of what you believe in. Unfortunately, there is a criminal element in our society that use the deaths of others to further their own agenda of destroying/burning the property of others, looting/stealing and any other mayhem they can inflict—-who are the real criminals in those cases? By the way, medical professionals sometimes have to restrain patients, the key to not killing them is GET THEM UP so the CAN breathe.

It sure would help for consumers to have more money to spend but we saw what happened after trying to unionize and actually earn those deserved wages: jobs just got "outsourced" and sent to where labor can be had for absurdly cheaper. Toss in automation and you'll start to see an even bigger dent in the average worker's pay. Spreading the wealth that already exists is probably the best move we have for now. We'll need a well-educated workforce where automation and slave labor can't reach. Those low-paying jobs need to go away and we all need to strive to reach higher than a living wage to serve somebody food, assemble their goods or stock their supermarket shelves. America can do better than some Capitalist crap hole where people still go without basic, inalienable rights - rights which cannot be stripped from any individual, as enshrined in our own Constitution. We really need to stop voting in these corporate-backed corrupt politicians if we ever want things to change
